Shared Tasks as Tutorials: A Methodical Approach

In this paper, we discuss the benefits and challenges of shared tasks as a teaching method. A task is scientific event friendly competition to solve research problem, task. terms linking teaching, shared-task-based tutorials fulfill several faculty desires: they leverage students' interdisciplinary heterogeneous skills, foster teamwork, engage them in creative work that has potential produce original contributions. Based on ten information retrieval (IR) courses at two universities since 2019 with tutorials, derive domain-neutral process model capture respective tutorial structure. Meanwhile, our method been adopted by other IR courses, but also areas AI such natural language processing robotics.
